Word of the Day:
de se (Latin: of oneself)
A phrase that implies that a statement uttered by a person is about that person and not referring to someone or something else. It is used in ambiguous cases when it is unclear to whom or what a pronoun is referring: “Peter thinks he is pale” could either mean that Peter thinks himself pale, or that he is someone else. In the first instance, the statement would be de se.
